New Look WNBL Releases Season Fixture
More games and more fan engagement headline the revamped WNBL’s new schedule.
MEDIA RELEASE:
The WNBL has today unveiled the full fixture for the 2025/26 season promising a summer of elite basketball, unmissable matchups, and unforgettable moments.
The new-look season will burst into life as the Southside Flyers face off against the Canberra Capitals in an opening showdown packed with star power on Saturday, October 18.
The league is planning something very special to tip off the season. Think festival atmosphere, legends of the game and surprises we will announce at a later date but trust us, you won’t want to miss it.
WNBA talent Jade Melbourne will make her highly anticipated return to Australian courts in what promises to be a statement game from the two powerhouse clubs.
To cap off the opening round, fans will be treated to a Championship rematch between Bendigo Spirit and Townsville Fire on Sunday 19, October.
Marking the start of a bold new chapter, the WNBL’s refreshed fixture showcases elite competition, cultural celebration, and fan connection like you’ve never seen before.
“This isn’t just the beginning of a new season – it’s the beginning of a bold new chapter for the WNBL,” WNBL CEO Jennie Sager said.
“With more games accessible live, digitally, and on television, you’ll be able to watch the best of the WNBL wherever you are. Fans right across the country will be treated to a summer of basketball with WNBL and NBL games broadcast six days a week and some really special events this season which we’ll be bigger than ever before.”
“We’ve built the fixture to inspire, excite, and connect. From the intensity of Opening Round to the magic of HoopsFest Perth and the emotion of our themed rounds, this is the WNBL like you’ve never seen it.”
Each of the WNBL’s eight clubs will compete in 23 games across 17 rounds. Each club will play 11 home games, 11 away games and one showcase game during HoopsFest Perth from 15-18 January.
Clubs will play two games a round, instead of one, six times throughout season, ensuring the momentum never stops and the competition remains fierce from tip-off to finals.
Gone from last season’s schedule are the regular midweek Wednesday night games, with games generally played between Friday and Sunday, with the occasional Tuesday and Thursday fixture sprinkled in.
The Finals Series will see the best teams come together in a best-of-three Semi-Finals’ series with the top two teams going on to battle it out in a best-of-three Championship series to determine the 2025/26 Champions.
The season will also feature Indigenous and Pride Rounds.
Sydney Flames will continue to play mostly standalone games at Quay Centre, with three Flames/Kings doubleheaders at Qudos Bank Arena, while Perth will make HPC Stadium their permanent home, as announced earlier in the week.
