Judo Australia Targets Females
A new initiative is hoping to increase female participation in the combat sport.
J-GIRLS: just judo, just girls.
J-Girls is an initiative by Judo Australia, with the help of the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well grant, to increase female participation in judo in Australia.
Currently, membership sits at just 24% female - Judo Australia are looking to increase that to 30% over the next 18 months.
To aid in this, Judo Australia has created a specific "J-Girls Membership" allowing those women & girls, who are not competitively inclined, an option to register as a J-Girl rather than the significantly more expensive State Memberships.
J-Girls has been built on the basis community & fun, ensuring women & girls have a safe, comfortable & accepting environment to practice judo in. We want to show females around the country how empowering judo can be, that it isn't as intimidating as it may seem & how being involved can provide you with a sisterhood, for life.
On the 23rd of March in VIC, TAS, S.A, W.A, N.T,S.E.Q & F.N.Q and the 30th of March in N.S.W & the A.C.T, women & girls from all over Australia will take to the mat in their state for the first ever J-Girls session.
THE DAY:
Lead by 8 of Female National team members, consisting of Olympians, Commonwealth Games Champions, Continental Champions & more, J-Girls from around the country will gather at their states session to take part in a day filled with fun, friendship & JUDO!
Starting at 10am, it will consist of a morning session, a break to mingle & bond with the other participants & another shorter afternoon session. After this, food & drinks will be provided in a space where participants can continue to build friendships & the J-Girls community.
WHO:
Recreational or competitive, beginner or black belt - it doesn't matter!
Ages 5 & up, all levels welcome.
COST:
For existing Judo Australia/State registered members, it is $30
For new members, it is $90 ($30 for the session, $60 for a yearly J-Girls membership with JA insurance)
