Eva Buzo Completes Historic Swim
The Australian Ultra Marathon swimmer today became the first person to swim from Italy to Albania
Sydney human rights lawyer Eva Buzo has become the first person to complete an unassisted swim from Italy to Albania, completing the 90km journey earlier today after 35 hours and 17 minutes.
Having had to the delay the swim by several days due to less favourable conditions, Eva set out on the weekend on the swim, drawing inspiration from her family’s Albanian heritage in choosing the route.
Leaving from Puglia, Italy, Eva swam across the Strait of Otranto and found land at Karaburun, Algeria. Experiencing cold sores on her lips during the swim, at one point Eva called out on social media for any nearby help in providing her with gelato.
The swim is estaimated to be the 44th longest ultra marathon swim distance in recorded history.
