Coco Gauff Becomes ‘Unrivaled’ Investor
The tennis superstar is the latest to put money into the new basketball league
US tennis star Coco Gauff has been unveiled as the newest investor in the soon-to-launch Unrivaled basketball league, which gets underway in less than two weeks in Miami, Florida.
Gauff joins a growing number of business people, athletes and Hollywood stars who are investing in the revolutionary new women’s basketball league, which features a number of the WNBA’s biggest names across six franchises in three-on-three play.
Other investors include NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps, recently retired US women’s football star Alex Morgan, and CEO of Boston Globe Media Linda Henry.
Founded by USA stars and Paris Olympic gold medallists Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, every player who features in the inaugural season of the player-owned competition will have equity. The league believes the players taking part in the three month season will be the highest paid female athletes for any team sport league in history, with a base salary of $250,000 USD on top of their equity, allowing the chance to earn more.
Other big names taking part include Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and rookie stars Angel Reese and Rikea Jackson.
