Aussies Make Historic World Cup Podium Sweep
Australian women have made it a clean sweep of the medals at the Aerial Ski World Cup
Laura Peel made it three World Cup gold medals in a row today, and it was an all-Australian podium overall at the Aerial Ski World Cup event at Deer Valley in the US today.
Due to weather conditions, the normal qualifying period was scrapped, with the qualifying happening less than an hour before the final. Aussies took the top four places in qualifying, with Peel ahead of Abbey Willcox, defending champ Danielle Scott and Airleigh Frigo.
The final saw the first two (lowest ranked) qualifiers unable to stick their landings, before the Australian girls all nailed their tricks.
Scott’s almost flawless landing saw her take the lead with 86.31, before Willcox not quite able to match it, and then Laura Peel’s jump with the potential for a maximum score of 94.50, was executed well to see her land a score of 87.57 and take gold.
To complete an incredible evening for the Australians, Airleigh Frigo also landed her jump to finish 4th, making it a top four clean sweep for the Aussies.
